Divorce & Separation Counseling
Divorce is one of life's hardest passages, whether you chose it or it happened to you. Divorce counseling is individual support to help you through it: the decision itself, the grief and anger, co-parenting, and the work of rebuilding a life and a sense of yourself on the other side. This is your space, separate from the legal process and from your former partner.
We see clients in person at our South Bay office and virtually across California.
Divorce is among life's most significant stressors, and a common one: research suggests 40 to 50% of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce (American Psychological Association). You are far from the only one going through this.

How divorce counseling helps
- Thinking through the decision without pressure either way
- Grief, anger, guilt, and the loss of a shared future
- Co-parenting, boundaries, and communication
- Rebuilding identity, confidence, and a new normal
- Managing the anxiety, low mood, or stress that come with it
Our approach
We meet you wherever you are in the process and support both the emotional and practical sides of change. It is part of our wider life transitions and individual therapy, and when divorce brings deep grief or depression, we treat the whole picture. For couples weighing whether to stay together, we also offer couples therapy.
As Jack Foley, LMFT, puts it:
"Divorce is a grief most people go through without anyone acknowledging the loss. Having one place that's just for you, no sides, no logistics, makes the whole thing more survivable."

Questions
Frequently asked
Is divorce counseling the same as couples therapy?
No. This is individual support for you as you go through separation or divorce. We also offer couples therapy separately, including for partners deciding whether to stay together.
Can therapy help me decide whether to divorce?
Yes. Therapy is a neutral, confidential place to think it through without pressure in either direction, and to get clear on what you actually want.
What if I am the one who was left?
Whether you initiated it or not, divorce is a profound loss. We help with the grief, anger, fear, and rebuilding that come with it.
Do you give legal advice?
No. We support the emotional side of divorce. For legal matters we can suggest you consult a family law attorney or mediator.
Do you offer divorce counseling online?
Yes, in person in the South Bay and via telehealth across California.
