Therapy for New Parents in the South Bay
Becoming a parent is one of life's biggest transitions, and it can bring anxiety, low mood, and a loss of yourself alongside the love. Therapy for new parents offers steady, judgment-free support through pregnancy, postpartum, and the long adjustment, including the very common and treatable experiences of postpartum depression and anxiety. You do not have to be struggling alone to deserve help, and you do not have to have it all together.
We see clients in person at our South Bay office and virtually across California, which fits life with a newborn.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affect an estimated 1 in 5 new mothers, and partners are affected too (Postpartum Support International). They are common, treatable, and not a reflection of your love or capability.

Our approach
We meet you in the reality of new parenthood and tailor the work to it, drawing on evidence-based approaches within our wider individual therapy. When medication would help, we coordinate with psychiatry, mindful of pregnancy and breastfeeding considerations.
As Jack Foley, LMFT, puts it:
"New parents are told to just enjoy it, which can make struggling feel shameful. Naming what's hard, out loud, is usually the first relief, and there's real, effective help."

Questions
Frequently asked
What is perinatal mental health?
It covers emotional wellbeing during pregnancy and the first year or so after birth. Conditions like postpartum depression and anxiety are common, treatable, and nothing to be ashamed of.
Is what I am feeling postpartum depression or just adjusting?
Both are real. Many new parents feel overwhelmed and tearful in the early weeks. When low mood, anxiety, or hopelessness persists beyond a couple of weeks or interferes with daily life, it is worth reaching out for an evaluation.
Do you treat dads and partners too?
Yes. New fathers and non-birthing partners also experience anxiety and depression around the transition to parenthood, and the same support applies.
Can I do therapy with a newborn at home?
Yes. Telehealth across California makes therapy possible from home, around feedings and naps. In-person is available in the South Bay too.
What if I am having scary thoughts?
Intrusive thoughts are common in the postpartum period and usually do not mean you are a danger. But if you have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, treat it as urgent: call or text 988, or go to the nearest emergency room.
